Description

Built for repetitive production drilling and fixture-mounted machining, the Ingersoll Rand 8245-101-3 is a Bant-A-Matic Series Self-Feed Air Drill combining a 0.25 HP pneumatic motor with a 10,000 RPM free speed and double gear reduction. The -3 configuration provides a 3 in. (76 mm) stroke, giving production fixtures additional feed travel for drilling cycles that require more spindle movement. The model is listed with a 3/16 in. capacity and is suited to repetitive drilling operations where controlled pneumatic feed and retract movement are required.

The Bant-A-Matic self-feed system uses a double-acting air piston to control forward and retract strokes. Needle-valve controls allow the feed and retract rates to be adjusted, while the adjustment screw provides infinite stroke-length settings. A built-in four-way valve permits manual or remote operation, allowing the drill to be incorporated into suitable pneumatic control systems. Ball-bearing spindle support provides controlled spindle guidance, and the muffled exhaust helps reduce operating noise. The drill uses a 1/4 in. (6.4 mm) standard chuck and provides 90 lb (400 N) thrust at 90 PSI.

Type: Self-Feed Air Drill | Series: Bant-A-Matic | Model: 8245-101-3 | Capacity: 3/16 in. | Motor Power: 0.25 HP (.20 kW) | Free Speed: 10,000 RPM | Gear Reduction: Double | Stroke Length: 3 in. (76 mm) | Thrust: 90 lb (400 N) at 90 PSI | Air Consumption: 1.5 ft³/cycle (42 L/cycle) at working speed | Sound Level: 77 dB(A) | Standard Chuck Capacity: 1/4 in. (6.4 mm)

Features:

  • The self-feed configuration provides controlled forward and retract movement for repeatable drilling cycles.
  • The rotary vane air motor provides spindle rotation for pneumatic drilling operations.
  • Double gear reduction provides the drive configuration specified for the 10,000 RPM model.
  • The double-acting air piston provides controlled forward and retract strokes.
  • Needle-valve controls allow adjustment of the forward and retract strokes.
  • The adjustment screw provides infinite stroke-length settings for controlled feed travel.
  • The built-in four-way valve permits both manual and remote operation.
  • Ball-bearing spindle support provides precision spindle guidance.
  • The muffled exhaust helps reduce operating noise during pneumatic operation.
  • The 1/4 in. standard chuck accommodates compatible drill tooling within the manufacturer's specified capacity.

NON-RETURNABLE. MADE TO ORDER.

Applications:

  • Production drilling — performing repetitive holemaking operations where controlled pneumatic feed and retract movement are required.
  • Fixture-mounted machining — integrating the drill into dedicated production fixtures where the 3 in. stroke provides the required feed travel.
  • Secondary machining — adding repeatable drilling cycles to manufacturing equipment without continuous manual feed control.
  • Metal fabrication — drilling compatible components within the manufacturer's stated capacity.
  • Automated drilling systems — using the four-way valve for manual or remote operation where the pneumatic installation supports controlled drill cycling.

FAQs:

  • Q: What is the free speed of the 8245-101-3?
    A: The 8245-101-3 has a 10,000 RPM free speed.
  • Q: What does the “-3” suffix indicate?
A: The -3 configuration identifies the 3 in. (76 mm) stroke version of the 8245-101 model family.
  • Q: What does double gear reduction mean?
A: It identifies the double gear reduction configuration used in the spindle drive of this 10,000 RPM model.
  • Q: What is the motor power?
A: The drill uses a 0.25 HP (.20 kW) pneumatic motor.
  • Q: How much thrust does the drill provide?
    A: The specified thrust is 90 lb (400 N) at 90 PSI.
  • Q: What is the standard chuck capacity?
A: The standard chuck capacity is 1/4 in. (6.4 mm).
  • Q: Can the 8245-101-3 be operated remotely?
A: Yes. The built-in four-way valve permits both manual and remote operation.
  • Q: What is the advantage of the 3 in. stroke?
A: The longer stroke provides additional spindle travel for fixtures and drilling cycles that require more feed movement than the shorter 1-1/4 in. and 2 in. configurations.
