Description

Ingersoll Rand 8265-46-3 is a Super Par-A-Matic Series Self-Feed Air Drill built for repeatable production drilling, fixture-mounted machining, and automated secondary machining. Its 0.75 HP (.56 kW) pneumatic motor delivers a 4,600 RPM free speed through a single gear reduction, while the 3 in. (76 mm) stroke provides extended spindle travel for production fixtures. The 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) standard chuck capacity accommodates compatible tooling for the specified drilling applications.

The self-feed system uses compressed air for both spindle rotation and feed/control functions. A double-acting air piston provides smooth, controlled forward and retract strokes, while needle-valve controls allow adjustment of those movements. An adjustment screw provides infinite stroke-length settings, allowing the feed cycle to be set to the application. Ball-bearing spindle support provides precision spindle guidance, and the muffled exhaust helps provide quieter pneumatic operation. The built-in four-way valve permits both manual and remote operation, making the drill suitable for integration into appropriate production machinery.

Applications:

  • Aerospace manufacturing — producing rivet holes and wing-frame mounting holes in suitable production fixtures.
  • Appliance manufacturing — drilling repeatable panel and frame holes during production assembly.
  • Metal fabrication — producing holes in sheet metal and compatible cast components within the specified material capacities.
  • Vehicle components — drilling engine-mount, hinge, and body-component holes in appropriate fixture-mounted operations.
  • Furniture and cabinet production — producing dowel, hinge, and pilot holes where the specified material capacities are suitable.
  • Recreational vehicle manufacturing — performing repeatable drilling operations on compatible ATV, snowmobile, and trailer components.

FAQs:

  • Q: What is the free speed of the 8265-46-3?
A: The 8265-46-3 has a 4,600 RPM free speed and uses single gear reduction.
  • Q: What does the “-3” configuration indicate?
A: The -3 configuration provides a 3 in. (76 mm) stroke, giving the spindle additional travel compared with the 1-1/2 in. configuration.
  • Q: What are the material-specific drilling capacities?
A: The manufacturer lists no nominal capacity for Type 304 stainless steel, 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) for SAE 1213 steel, 1/4 in. (6.4 mm) for 2024-T4 aluminum, and 5/16 in. (7.9 mm) for wood, medium or FRP.
  • Q: Is the 1/2 in. specification the maximum drilling diameter for every material?
A: No. The 1/2 in. specification identifies the standard chuck capacity. Actual nominal drilling capacity varies by workpiece material.
  • Q: Can the 8265-46-3 be operated remotely?
A: Yes. The built-in four-way valve permits both manual and remote operation for suitable pneumatic control arrangements.
  • Q: What air supply does this self-feed drill require?
A: The specified operating pressure is 90 PSI (6.2 bar), with a 1/4 in. NPT male air inlet and recommended 3/8 in. hose I.D.
