Built for surface preparation, scale removal, and chisel-assisted cleanup work, the Cleco B1-CNB-LT-RD Needle Scaler combines a 4,600 BPM percussion rate with a 1.0" bore and 1.1" stroke to deliver repeated impacts for removing rust, paint, weld slag, casting scale, and other built-up material from metal surfaces. As a B1 Series lever-start tool, it gives operators direct throttle control while working across uneven surfaces, fabricated parts, and maintenance and repair areas.

The needle-type scaler configuration uses bundled needles to conform to irregular contours, seams, corners, and textured surfaces where a flat chisel may not contact evenly. This model is supplied with 5" needles standard, accepts 7" needles optionally, and includes a built-in chisel retainer for tool security during use. A steel housing supports durability in shop and field environments, while the front exhaust directs air forward from the tool body.

Applications:

  • Shipbuilding and marine repair — removing corrosion, mill scale, coatings, and weld slag from decks, frames, seams, and structural steel.
  • Pipe fabrication and welding shops — cleaning weld areas, knocking off slag, and preparing surfaces before inspection or coating.
  • Transportation equipment manufacturing — scaling frames, brackets, weldments, and fabricated assemblies before paint or rework.
  • Industrial maintenance and MRO — cleaning rusted machinery, guards, bases, platforms, and repair parts during plant maintenance.
  • Automotive, fleet, and garage repair — removing rust, undercoating, and scale from frames, suspension parts, and repair panels where needle scaling is appropriate.

FAQs:

  • Q: What is a needle scaler used for?
A: A needle scaler uses multiple small needles to strike the surface rapidly, making it useful for removing rust, paint, scale, slag, and buildup from uneven metal surfaces. It is especially helpful on corners, weld seams, castings, and textured areas where a flat tool may not reach evenly.
  • Q: What does 4,600 BPM mean?
A: BPM stands for blows per minute. On this tool, 4,600 BPM means the scaler delivers rapid percussive impacts to break loose surface contamination and scale.
  • Q: Does the B1-CNB-LT-RD use standard or optional needles?
A: This model is listed with 5" needles as standard and 7" needles as optional. Confirm needle compatibility and retainer setup before changing needle length.
  • Q: Can this tool be used as a chisel scaler?
A: The CNB configuration is listed as a chisel and needle scaler style, and the tool includes a built-in chisel retainer. Use only compatible Cleco-approved chisels or implements for the B1-C series.
  • Q: What air setup does this Cleco needle scaler require?
A: Manufacturer data rates the tool at 90 PSI / 620 kPa with a 1/4" air inlet and 5/16" minimum hose I.D. Use clean, dry, regulated air and proper lubrication for reliable operation.
