The main application was the removal of weld seams in inside 90-degree welded plate assemblies with carbide burrs. The grinders were also used with spiral sanding bands for de-burring machined components and light surface preparation prior to painting.

Testing materials included approximately:

  • 10% stainless steel

All tools were used in the same shop environment, using a 3/8-inch air hose fed by a 75-horsepower compressor. To eliminate air quality as a variable, each workstation was fitted with a filter-regulator-lubricator (FRL) unit to supply clean, dry, and properly lubricated compressed air throughout the testing period.
