ARO 8315 by Ingersoll Rand is a high frequency pneumatic engraving pen used for marking welds, hardened tool steels, plastic, glass, and other materials. It is held and used in the same fashion that you hold a pen or pencil. It comes standard equipped with a medium needle tip (39862-2), but finer (39862-1), and courser (39862-3) needles are available depending on how wide you want your marking lines to be.
- Medium Needle Tip Radius = .010
- Fine Needle Tip Radius = .005
- Course Needle Tip Radius = .015
The 8315 utilizes a twist type throttle valve that should be ran wide open (a full 360 degree turn) upon starting the tool. The throttle can then be backed off to achieve the proper marking force on softer materials.
This marking pen operates at 36,000 strokes per minute (SPM) and is manufactured in Sweden for Ingersoll Rand. Due to its low vibration and fine adjustability to work with softer materials, the ARO 8315 is equally likely to be used by paleontologists as it is by metal workers.
